Regenerative, Always

Every decision on our Farm is made with the environment and our sustainability in mind. Through our grazing and growing practices, we are able to sequester carbon, reducing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Built on generations of knowledge, stewardship, and hands-on experience, we farm to improve the land year after year, not extract from it. When you buy from us, you’re supporting local food, local land, and a resilient future.

Closed Loop Farming

Everything that is taken from the land is put back through our farming practices. But what does this look like? A small snapshot would show that our cattle are born and raised here, and only consume feed that is grown on our farm. They graze our pastures through methods of rotational grazing that allows them to provide the land with nutrients through the addition of organic matter. Any land that is unreachable by the cattle, such as the fields that grow their feed, is spread with composted manure to provide the soil with nutrients. That feed is then harvested and fed back to the cattle that provided the nutrients for it to grow.

Megan…

is the Manager at Westview, and spends her time doing a bit of everything. Her favorite parts of the farm though, are the cattle and cut flowers. Her husband, John, is the resident fix all.

Stuart…

is the Crop Manager at Westview. You will find him on a tractor 99% of the time on the farm. His girlfriend, Lexi (a current vet student) helps keep the cattle healthy.

The farm dogs & cats clearly run the show.

The resident flower queen! If we ever have too much flower seed, she’s the reason.

Farm History

    Early 1900s

    Westview Farm was founded in the early 1900s by the Wetherell Family (George and Flora). As a dairy farm, they provided glass bottled milk delivered by horse and buggy to the surrounding community until World War II.

    Mid 1900s

    The farm was passed on to the next generation of Wetherells (G. Alfred). The dairy expanded with the addition of the stanchion barn, upright tile silo and bunk feeder in the late 1940s.

    At this point, the farm was no longer bottling milk, but instead was shipping large volumes.

    Late 1900s

    Jim and Grace Harmon purchased Westview Farm from the Wetherell family in 1977, thus the start of the current family’s ownership of the farm.

    Jim and Grace continued the dairy until 1996 when they dispersed the dairy herd and purchased a small herd of Hereford beef cattle. This was the start of the current beef cattle herd that is on the farm today.

    1996-2020

    The next 24 years drastically changed the landscape of the farm. Corn fields were planted to perennial grasses, hay became the main crop on the farm, the beef herd grew and we began the journey of rotational grazing.

    Jim and Grace passed their knowledge down to Megan and Stuart over these years, and the next transition of the farm began.

    2020 - Present

    In 2020, we made the biggest change to the business yet, and started marketing our grass fed, grass finished beef locally on the retail level. This has also allowed us to expand our cattle herd, farmstand offerings, and increase our vegetable and flower production to meet the growing demand! Following this came our sunflower field and other valued added products.

    We couldn’t be happier with this change. It has given us the opportunity to share our story, the farm’s story and connect with so many people in our community.
